Well-Being Through Art
Project Name
Organisation Name
Richmond Fellowship Queensland
Social Issue/Problem
A need for activities that support artistic expression and psychosocial support to facilitate recovery of people experiencing mental health issues.
Solution
The Well-Being Through Art project will support 2 new activities including art workshops for mental health participants led by a local artist and a recovery support worker, and art workshops for mental health participants led by a local Indigenous artist and a recovery support worker. Participants will be provided the opportunity to complete personal art pieces under the instruction of a local artist in Hervey Bay and Bundaberg once a week for 25 weeks for 2 hours. At the end of the workshops a celebration will be held to give the participants an opportunity to share their artwork. The project is based on the unique way art provides a way for individuals to express emotions and thoughts that may be difficult to put into words. But through painting, drawing, sculpture, and other forms of creative expression, participants can explore their feelings in a safe and non-judgemental environment. The addition of a recovery support worker further provides participants with a more meaningful engagement with art and supports participants to explore and express their emotions in a safe space.
