Lack of basic needs supports for those experiencing disadvantage and homelessness to have and maintain dignity and hygiene.
Solution
The Sunshine Van provides a mobile hot shower and laundry service in the Hervey Bay area. The Sunshine Van is implemented three times on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays each week by We Care 2 being situated for easy access.
Outcome
It is delivered in partnership with the free Community Breakfast program allowing those in need to receive food, wash their clothes and have a hot shower to maintain dignity and hygiene. There is also a phone charging station so people can stay in connected to supports and community. Over 100 people have accessed the service over 6 months with 250 loads of washing completed.
