Social Issue/Problem

There is a significant gap in addiction recovery services within the Hervey Bay area. This includes a growing need for alternative recovery program that offer evidence-based, non-12-step approaches to addiction management. Many individuals within the community face barriers to accessing traditional services, particularly when services do not align with their personal recovery preferences or needs.

Solution

Shine Bright SMART Recovery Groups will be a newly introduced service offering evidence-based, peer-supported recovery meetings for individuals struggling with addictive behaviours. These groups are grounded in the SMART Recovery model, which focuses on self-management techniques to help participants overcome addiction related to alcohol, drugs, and other compulsive behaviours.

The groups will meet weekly at a designated location in Hervey Bay, offering a safe and supportive environment where participants can learn practical skills for recovery, manage urges, and enhance motivation. Each session will last 90 minutes and will be facilitated by trained staff from Shine Bright Mental Health, with two facilitators per group to ensure comprehensive support.
