Social Issue/Problem
The Fraser Coast region, like many communities, has been impacted by mental health including depression, anxiety and suicide, where the statistics are much higher than the average across Queensland. Mental health issues are prevalent across all demographics, but the stigma surrounding these challenges often prevents individuals from seeking help or speaking openly about their experiences.
Solution
The Everyday Mates project will share the stories of local individuals who have experienced mental health challenges with the aim of reducing stigma and fostering understanding in the wider community by showing that mental health affects everyone, regardless of background or circumstance. Stories will be shared via:
- Video interviews
- Written stories
- Social media campaign
- Community events
- Education resources
- Documentary/ compilation video
- Website feature
